Maria's Curse (One-shot manga by the Author of Ake no Tobari)

Nanaten here! I've been so busy preparing for the #NanatenTurnsAnotherYear birthday concert, I actually forgot to do any script this month. However, I found a manga that actually wants to make me translate it and typeset it on the same day. Mostly because of the strict deadline nature of how I want to support this series.

So this is Maria Ju (Maria's Curse, the Ju for curse as in "Jujutsu Kaisen"), a brand new one-shot by Momochi Dori-sensei, a.k.a. the author of Ake no Tobari. They are finally back with a brand new story after the completion of Tobari (and tons of recuperations). The story is about this highschool couple who has to fight a demon who broke out of its seal.

My first impression is a bit rough. It is an odd feeling having to transition of reading Momochi Dori's work from webtoon format to regular manga format. Well, the lack of color, for one. But the story is more slow paced compared to Tobari despite having more panel count in comparison. But it's a welcome change nontheless.

I also like how this manga is has more focused on romance. I mean, the bromance in Ake no Tobari is one of the main selling point, ngl, but the series never went on that angle (not yet as of my point in the translation anyway). I like the fact that the main male lead, Kiyotsugu, is essentially a himbo. And the contrast between the lead just gives a unique charm, as cliché as it might be. Also, the fact that the leads are already an established couple is kind of a breath of fresh air.

You can watch the VOD of the typesetting process here:

Anyway, if you guys want to see this manga gets serialized, please be sure to leave a comment on the Ganma! app page of the manga. I leave the tutorial on how to register an account on the stream. Or you can retweet this. Help this manga get serialized!!!

Another announcements: I made a discord server! I had a lot of discussion on how to increase my engagement with my audience, and considering that I've been falling off this couple of months, I decided to go hail mary and create my own discord server. There, you can join and chat, and discuss your favorite manga together, and maybe join a VC session or two! Just click the link here or use the qr code to join the server now!

So here is the chapter. As usual, let me know if you find any mistake or error in the comments below (or actually just hit me up on discord).

Ake no Tobari Ch. 263-264 (Nanaten Awards Announcement)

Nanaten here. It's been a very busy week for me. I was in a committee for my school's graduation ceremony. I must say, it's quite a fun experience. I get to see what happened behind the scene. Although I'll probably going to get absolutely sick of it eventually after doing it enough times, I'll also probably will go around it.

It seems that a lot of content creators are making their own award shows to wrap up 2022. So I'm making one as well. And considering how colloquial I am during my stream, I think I make a good award show host. So for this week's stream, I and Cooky Usagida, decided to go over the nominees for The First Annual Nanaten Awards.

That was the original plan, but my processor couldn't keep up with the stream, so I was dropping a lot of frames. So yeah, if you guys have the time, please cast your votes on some of your favorite Nanaten moments from 2022 (and 2021 because I forgot to do this last year). Just click this link to cast your votes.

So here are the chapters. You know the routine: let me know if you find any error or mistakes down in the comments below. I'm going to take a holiday break, but there's still going to be a new chapter next week, so don't worry. Alright, Have great holidays, everybody!

Ake no Tobari Ch. 252-253

Nanaten here inhaling some high quality copium. I just found out that Ake no Tobari has officially ended its serialization in Comico. The final chapter was just released a couple of days ago and it hit me hard. Please send your congratulations for finishing the series on Momochi Dori's sensei's twitter.

I've told this story a couple of times before. It was New Year's eve 2015 when I first discovered Ake no Tobari. I was spending the new years alone and I was pretty bored, so I browsed through some Comico titles. And at the corner of my eye, I saw this cheerful demon smiling at me. Intrigued, I started clicking the first chapter.

The very first scene where this tiny girl asking a tiny demon to play together quickly establishes the theme of the series: coexistence. Then we cut to a bunch of demons picking up a fight with a priest. And then comes the tiny demon from before, now an adult yet still has that childlike innocence. His name is Tobari, a human-loving demon. He asks of his childhood friend, the girl from the very first scene. She had moved away and lived her own life amongst the humans. They parted with a promise to play again, like they used to.

The priest didn't believe him, for demons are hostile against humans, a generally accepted consensus amongst both their kind. Suddenly, a giant demon appeared, trying to attack both the priest and the demon. To prove his innocence, Tobari defended the priest with a swift kick to the giant's face.

The priest then takes Tobari to the house of his childhood friend. The priest told a story of a woman who befriended a demon. The demon wishes for coexistence between humans and demons. And that story inspired him. They arrived to the house. As he rushes towards the house, Tobari asks for the priest's name. His name is Reimei. Tobari opens the door. What he never realized was demons and humans have different lifespan, thus their perception of time is a little warped. What Tobari perceived as a childhood memory, was a lifetime for a human. Tobari sees his beloved childhood friend already on her deathbed.

He takes her hand and grants her an illusion. Suddenly, she was young and healthy again. They played like they promised they would all those years ago. After they are satisfied, they make another promise, to play again once Tobari fulfills his dream: to create a paradise where humans and demons can coexist. A promise that will never be fulfilled, as she drew her final breath at that moment.

He meets the priest again, as they wait for the sunrise. Reimei asks, "What now?" Tobari decides to build his paradise there, at his childhood friend's village. It is going to be along and arduous task. So Tobari asks for Reimei's help to be his partner to fulfil their dreams. As they shook hands, the sun rises, signaling a dawn of what is another dream.

That first chapter captivated me. I was charmed by Tobari's positive attitude and their ambition to create this paradise of coexistence with his partner Reimei. It's the way they support each other that draws me into the series. Tobari by himself is powerful, he can probably create a paradise by himself. But he sometimes gets carried away with his emotions, especially when his more demonic side appears. That's where Reimei comes in. He's there as the perfect foil. He keeps Tobari in check so he doesn't go berserk (also he's a great cook). They trust each other and their ability.

We skip to one year later, New Year's Eve 2016. I have just finished Fudekage and I was tired of translating Kawahara Masatoshi works. Then I looked at Ake no Tobari. The chapters are short and can give me a change of pace to break off the monotone. The original plan was to do Kawahara Masatoshi works while doing Ake no Tobari as a side project. Who would've guessed that Ake no Tobari became my main translation project and I decided to abandon most of Kawahara Masatoshi projects that I have?

I thought that this series could go on forever. And at a time, it was. Look at this current arc, it's been more than 50 chapters yet we're still dealing with Iwao and Tengenro politics. But then the announcement for the final arc came, and I thought, "Well, only 50+chapters left." Looking back, I might be huffing a tube of copium then. And finally, the final chapter arrived. So many congratulation messages on Momochi Dori sensei's twitter. I started reflecting on what Ake no Tobari means to me.

It was thanks to this series, I get to meet so many wonderful people. I made my first internet money by translating this, thanks to Patreon. And I used that money for other projects, which then lead to other thing, and now I am a mediocre Vtuber with a meager 380 subs at the age of 28. Most of my achievements and milestones can be attributed to Ake no Tobari. And I don't think any other series can replicate that feeling. Like I said on my manga 3x3 stream, "This series shape the way I am now. Without this series, there won't be Nanaten."

That being said, Tobari is far from over (cue massive copium). With Ake no Tobari being over, I can see the end of the tunnel of this long and arduous journey. 85 chapters left, that give me what? A full year, give and take? And there's Pocket Comics reader. Haven't checked on the app yet. At what chapter they're at currently? I'll do my best to keep the overseas fandom alive. And another thing: Momochi Dori sensei has gotten permission from Comico to post more Ake no Tobari stuff on their twitter. While sporadically, Momochi Dori sensei will post more Ake no Tobari stuff, such as illustrations and maybe short comics. And who knows, maybe Comico will decide to release physical copies in manga form (massive copium).

Anyway, this is a long post, and I don't think I've wrote everything I wanted to say. I haven't gotten into my stream archive yet. But you can just hop into my youtube channel by then. I did so much stream on my youtube channel lately, I only managed to find time to translate and typesetting last night. Yikes. But I do find it fun. Especially when there's people in the chat.

Speaking of that, I'll be doing another Anime 3x3 stream tonight where I sit down and talk about my favorite anime. This time, I'll be talking about my favorite YAOI series. It's been a long time coming, and I hope to see you there, because some of the stuff I'll be talk about might be spicy.

Anyway, here are the chapters. As usual let me know if you find any mistake or error in the comments below. Next week will be a Corseltel update. Oh, I even forgot to say Happy Indonesian Independence Day!!!

Ake no Tobari Ch. 238

Nanaten here. I managed to have my PC delivered last week, but it'll still going to take at least till next month for me to get a stable internet set up.

Other news: my facebook page has recently gotten a bunch of Copyright strikes, thus resulting in my page to become inaccessible. I was out of town, without my PC. with poor reception when I got the notifications. I couldn't do anything to get any details about this predicament. Heck, even as of writing this post, I still have trouble accessing the support page. I'm just shaking my head in exasperation at the moment.

Other important news: Momochi Dori-sensei had recently announced that Ake no Tobari is entering its final arc.

And to prepare, Momochi Dori-sensei's taking a two-month break from the series.
I've been having this lingering feeling that Ake no Tobari is ending. The series has been running for more than 7 years now. That's almost just as long as the actual Comico's manga service itself. Many Comico series doesn't last that long. Heck, even Re-Life ended 3 years ago. The only other series that run that long is Mummy in my Home. I'd always thought that Ake no Tobari would last for another 7 years. But after reading the latest Japanese raw, it felt like there's only one last story to tell and it has always been walking towards that natural conclusion.

A lot has happened in that seven years. Momochi Dori got hospitalized TWICE while writing this series. The series was translated into so many languages, both officially and unofficially. Ake no Tobari has always been the firstly announced title whenever Comico announces new translation service. Even if some of the official translations didn't even make it past chapter 200 before they were canceled. Heck, even this translation project wouldn't have survived if it weren't for the support of many readers worldwide. All I'm trying to say is, Ake no Tobari has been a significant part of Comico, that it's almost criminal that it didn't get the attention it deserves. Even Momochi Dori-sensei themselves lamented over the fact that it never got a printed release.

So while Momochi Dori-sensei is taking their well deserve break, I encourage you to tweet them a thank you message and tell them how much you love the epic adventures of Tobari and Reimei.

Ake no Tobari Ch. 236-237

Nanaten here writing this post on my phone because my pc still hasn't been delivered. First day at work and I'm taking it slowly. Feeling the lay of the land, you know? The language lab they assigned me had been abandoned for a couple of semesters, so it's going to take a while to get things running again, especially with my lack of knowledge in electronics and engineering.

This week's video: a video to celebrate (early) White Day (the romantic kind). I know it's only the twelfth, but it's better than sharing this on the nineteenth. So you guys get an early access before it goes to public.

So as you recall, I did a poll on my Patreon to see what mmd music video I should do. And the result was a tie between Electronica in Velvet Room and A Way of Life.

So remember last month when I did a poll for February's MMD video and it was a tie between Electronica in Velvet Room and A Way of Life? Well, here is the video for A Way of Life. This is also a showcase for my new Vtuber model.

This model had new hairstyle, eyes, and eyebrows worked from scratch. I also add a little detail on the nose, which might not have been much, but it's a game changer for me. For this video, I repositioned the headphones on the neck, but for regular stream and video, I'll put it on the head as usual.

I already mentioned last month that for this video I would make a new outfit for my model. So I took the opportunity to rework on my model and fix a couple of stuff. I've been planning to do a vtuber model version 2 for quite some time now. I had some sketches made back in October. I wanted my model to have shorter hair and thinner side braid. I took some inspirations from Persona Dance models, particularly Akihiko Sanada's model. I tried to put the usual purple hoodie on the model, but It didn't worked as much as I hoped it to be. That being said, I do have some other sketches that depicts a Buginese formal outfit combined with Harajuku styles. If I had more time to work on the model, I probably try to make them. For now, I just had to use the preset school outfit from Vroid.

It also took me the entire day to convert the Vroid model to work on MMD. For the previous video, I just had to replace the texture for the body skin and t-shirt of my old model. But for this video I had to export the model and tweak the bones. I followed the new tutorial by Denom Rs. But there were a bit of complications.

First was the UniVrm unity package that came with the tutorial. I've been using the latest version of the package, but in the tutorial it used a really old version, even older than the one I used for my previous model. So when I exported the model and opened it on MMD, the face's shadow wasn't rendered properly. Think Pokemon Legend Arceus's level of shadow but somehow realistic contrast(?). I don't know how to describe it. Anyway, a couple of seconds with PMX editor plugin fixed the issue.

Second was the feet bone fix to be compatible with Project DIVA and Persona motions. Luckily, Denom's new tutorial fixed the second mother bone issue that usually comes with converting VRM model to PMX. So I was practically halfway done. The issue was that I somehow forgot to delete the materials when I tried to combine two of the same model, so my pmx model ended up with double the material and oh, the feet issue still persist. So I got tired of it and deleted the bones altogether (can't have the feet bone gone astray if you don't have any, amirite?). This create another issue where the legs would go to a spasm from time to time. If you pay close attention to the legs on the video, you'll see what I'm talking about.

But despite all that, I had a lot of fun working on this video. And who knows, maybe on the next video, I'll actually sing.

About this chapter: as you notice, i only have one chapter of Ake no Tobari. Yeah, while I wait for my computer to arrive, there's going to be a slow update on all the series. Luckily, my dad lent me his office laptop. I looked at the specs last night and I think my dad's office got scammed. It's an Acer Aspire 3 with a Radeon R5 and 4gb RAM for some reason. I mean it could run Photoshop CS5 fine, but still... Anyway, I just going have to do with that and start working on the scripts.

So here's the chapter. Let me know in the comments if you find any mistake or errors. I'll see you next week.

CnR-KM Chapter 26

Nanaten here. I am completely done with my self quarantine. Still have minor coughs though, but lately it's less frequent.

I mentioned in my Patreon post last month that my dad got me a new job as the head of language lab at a local university at my hometown. That means that I would have to move out and therefore have no access to my brother's pc for cleaning and typesetting. I stayed at the city during February to get my things sorted out (and again, self quarantine). Immediately after my self quarantine was finished, I got a call from my dad that I have to go there to finalize the paperwork (and help out at the cornfield for harvest). So I packed my bags and move back in with my parents early this week.

So while I wait for my PC to get delivered, I would have to make do with my super old laptop. Not to worry though, I already had a couple of chapters scheduled for this month. I also have a new MMD video coming up next monday. So look forward to those.

I spent my self quarantine time playing Pokemon Legends Arceus. I don't have a Switch, so I played it on Yuzu emulator. It works well enough except for a couple of frame dips at the Jubilife Village and some minor graphical glitches. Somehow I couldn't get Vulkan rendering to work on my (brother's) PC. Right as I was about to face Palkia, the Daybreak update and Pokemon Scarlett and Violet were announced. I couldn't play too much of the Daybreak update because it was two days before I left for home. But I'm looking forward to Gen 9 pokemon.

I also worked on the V2 of my Vtuber model. I've been working on this since October after listening to Argama Witch's comment on my model during her stream. She said and I quote "the only thing original is the hair". So I decided to rework on the model materials. New hairstyle, eyes, and eyebrows. The next MMD video will be a showcase for the new model. So again, look forward to that.

About this chapter: when I was self quarantine, I forgot that I already had this chapter done. I think this chapter was meant to be released in case the donathon stream didn't pan out. So this story is a multi-chapter arc with two concurrent plot. In one hand, we have Agrina who is about to receive her first egg, on the other we have a new dark dragon mage coming to Corseltell for the dark dragon egg. If you've been following Goingsoloonce's livejournal, I posted a picture of Agrina, her dragon, the new dark dragon and its mage at his comment section. And with this, most of the new CnR-KM cast has arrived and basically I can proceed with the second volume of Illbeck. I'll probably do it once my PC arrives.

So here's the chapter. Let me know in the comment section below if you find any mistake or error.

Ake no Tobari Ch. 202-204

Nanaten here. Thank you for all thoughts and prayers for my grandmother. I really appreciate it. I am feeling better now.

Now that all that I finally get most of those feelings out of my chest, onto this week's videos. First is an MMD music video I made last month before I went and visit my grandmother for the final time:
I'd been learning MMD for the past year. I was planning on making an MMD music video as part of my Vtube debut (you can see the teaser at the end of my best of 2020 compilation video). But my brother pointed out that I should also learn how to use Raycast. The thing is, instead of using MMD, I was actually using MMM (MikuMikuMoving), a similar software with less intimidating UI, which has small issue with Raycast. Thus I spent over 3 days trying to get Raycast to work on MMM to no avail. Ultimately, I gave up and decided to render the whole music video on MMD instead. It only took two hours. It was vexing, but the end product turned out quite well.

Second music video is my team's entry for HBCB. It's a chorus battle with fantasy setting. Our team's entry is "Zeal of Proud" by Roselia from Bang Dreams. It's been a while since I did an anime cover, and this project is a slow move return towards it.

Third video is a pitch video of my AI Chatbot, Nanabot. As I mentioned, I took a class on building an AI Chatbot, and at the end of the class, we were tasked to create a pitch video on our chatbots. I was supposed to make another chatbot with a team of several people, but personal matters happen, and it was 3 days to the deadline. So I rushed the Nanabot code and submit it as a solo entry.

Fourth video, the most recent, is a stream highlights of my Nexus SMP streams. I just took (some of) the best bits of my stream and put in into a single narrative. Whether this video is canon to the Nexus SMP lore is up to debate.

About these chapters: I was planning these chapters as stretch goal reward for my Don-a-thon stream I had planned for last month, before my grandmother passed away. After her passing, I was unmotivated to do anything for the next week. After a few days of processing stuff, I finally got back on my feet and started streaming again (to less than desired effect)
For context: I am currently raising money to either upgrade my Vtube setup or groceries (one of the two depending on the money raised). And I thought since the last donation stream worked so well and I had fun doing it, I should try it again, this time with more variable releases. So I spent the past week prior to that stream cleaning and typesetting a bunch of chapters until I was spent. In addition, that month, my family pointed out how much I gained weight, so I thought I should stream more Just Dance game as a good incentive to exercise. Put those two together, I am basically dancing my way to get tips, I'm practically a virtual stripper. That's how I got the idea of using a pole dancing as the thumbnail. Afterward, I got too committed to the pole dancing bit, I decided to put THAT as a stretch goal reward for donation. And now here we are...

Oh, before I forget, I'll be doing more of this Just Dance don-a-thon stream throughout June. I'll probably going to do another stream later tonight at 11 PM GMT+8. And for a head's up, here's the stretch goals for the stream (it's safe to scratch Ake no Tobari chapter 202-204 off this list, I had no time to update the list nor translating another Ake no Tobari chapters to replace them).

I will still release these chapters on one-chapter-a-week basis, but by donating, I will release the chapter immediately after the stream just like the last time.

So here are the chapters. Next week will be an Umakawa update just like it was \written on the stretch goal list.

Shura no Mon Vol. 11 Ch. 41

Nanaten here sitting completely listless. My friends had a casual cosplay gathering but I couldn't make it because I was streaming minecraft (and the fact that my mother took most of my make-up kit). And there's this CLAS:H cosplay pic showcase and now I'm starting to wonder if I should get back to cosplaying.

This week's video: the minecraft livestream was a disaster and I keep missing lore day for Nexus SMP, so we're just gonna skip that. On the other hand, the third episode of Sakura Taisen Let's Play is up. I noticed that people would be less inclined to watch my video because of its length, so this time I tried to make the episode shorter by less than an hour. It also took less time to edit.

Second video is another Among Us collab stream with other Vtubers. We had fun doing this, especially when I got impostor most of the stream. We are planning for more collabs like this, so stay tuned for that.

Other things: I took a virtual class on how to build a chatbot. I managed to build a simple chatbot called Nanabot. So far it can only respond to question such as "I like [insert anime here]" and giving small recommendation on anime and manga based on genre. But the latter was hella buggy, so take caution. Please talk to Nanabot and let me know what you think in the comments.

About this chapter: nothing really happens in this chapter. It is mostly a setup for this current arc, so I cannot talk about it too much. But we do get introduced to a new character this chapter. That's all I have to say. I am completely exhausted.

I am planning of doing another Don-a-thon stream because I need money to get a Leap Motion sensor. The last don-a-thon was a success and I actually had fun during the stream, but the price of graphic card skyrocketed and so long has passed. I actually used the money I collected to pay other stuff such as my bills and groceries, so financially speaking, think the second season premiere of Two Broke Girls (or something similar, I haven't actually watched that show). This time, I am not only planning on releasing Tobari as a donation goal, but other series as well, so look forward to that. If you have a suggestion on what I should be doing for the Don-a-thon stream, let me know in the comment section.

Ake no Tobari Ch. 187-188 & Stream Announcement

Nanaten here. I've been making preparations for my graduation ceremony only for it to be postponed for two weeks smh. I also spent the week in preparation for my next stream and I want to do something special.

Speaking of stream, In case if you missed my stream last week:
We tried to defeat the Ender Dragon during our stream only for it to be ruined by Bliztikus mistyping the command. So we had to end the stream early. And to our shock, the server got backed up, Articule and Bliz dared to challenge the Ender Dragon without us. So I'm a bit upset. Anyway, as you can see from the video, my stream quality is not good because my PC lacks the performance needed to run minecraft and stream at the same time. I'll also be making my Vtube debut soon, and I need a PC capable of doing that. And for that reason I am announcing this:

So yeah, on my next stream tonight, I'm thinking of doing a little bit fundraiser. I spent the week working on a batch of Ake no Tobari chapters and I thought it would be good to use those chapters as goals/rewards for reaching some milestones. So as you can see, for every $20 raised, I will release one translated chapter of Ake no Tobari. I will release the link on the next post on this site and on Mangadex 30 minutes later. So I'll see you at the stream.

About these chapters: So this is the beginning of the new arc. Where we last left off, Tobari and Reimei is heading towards Tsugomori's hometown. I had my reservation about this arc because the arc went on for so long. Not in terms of the pacing, but the release. Momochi Dori-sensei had to go on a lot of breaks during this arc. They were hospitalized at one point, which was concerning. But they're fine now.

also, Comico is having a special Valentine's Day event and there's a character poll for the best Bachelor of various Comico series with Tobari as one of the nominees. So how this poll works is that, you go to the Valentine Day event page. Each nominees has their own respective chapters where you can cast your vote by like and comments. The page to cast your votes for Tobari is here. One lucky voter will get a special illustration by the respective author of the series.

So here are the beginning of Tengenro arc. I'll be taking a break next week because I am burnt out.

Corselten no Ryujutsushi Koryu Monogatari Vol. 3 Ch. 17

Nanaten here wishing everyone's a happy thanksgiving. I've been busy with paperwork for my graduation and taking academic journal translation commissions lately. I didn't have time to open my computer to translate any manga. I've been using my brother's pc to do my work and it's starting to annoy him.

This week's videos: The first one is the last Left4Dead2 campaign I recorded with Hoot and Chaz. In this campaign, we tried to see who can survive the bridge part of The Parish while we run for our lives.

The second video is the second episode of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Abridged created by a good friend of mine, Thundermuffin. You remember him from his last Jojo's Bizarre Adventure in a Nutshell video last year where I voiced Koichi (fun fact: I decided to start watching Jojo because of that video).

if you have the time, please go to Thundermuffin's channel and subscribe to him. Also leave a comment telling him that I sent you.

About this chapter: I was planning to work on Kaiouki after so long, but because of the reasons I mentioned at the beginning, I didn't have the time to work on the script. However, before I finished on Corseltel volume 2 extras, I did finished the script of this chapter ahead. Also a little news, CnRKM has officially finished its run with Volume 14 went on sale this week. I really wish someone would give me the raws of all 14 volumes (or at least the last 4 volumes). But not to worry, a new Corseltel series is in the works. The new series will have another small time skip with the characters get a bit older. My speculation is that new generation of dragons will arrive in Corseltel. I can't wait for the new series.

So here is the new chapter. Next week will be a Tobari update.

Ake no Tobari Ch. 180-182 + Character Poll results

Nanaten here. So I just found a torrent link of my translation of Umakawa volume 1-3 batch on Nyaa. Rather than devastated, I felt a slight pride on myself that my translation work is valid enough to have people actually torrent it. My only problem with the torrent batch is that it merely just a rip from Mangadex/Mangakalot, so there is a small problem regarding the location of the extras. In the torrent batch, the extras are put right at the end but in the actual volumes, they were actually scattered throughout. It's not really a problem, I'm just nitpicking. I wanted to say that you can extract the pages from the direct zip files provided in this blog as the file names were sorted like the original Japanese raws, but then I realized that I used mangazine raws for the first few chapters of the first two volumes.

On the topic of Umakawa, the first volume of Miku Morinaga's latest series, Kimi no Koe, is out this week. I really wish to read it, but I still don't know how to rip the pages. So if anyone would kindly give me the raws, that will be much appreciated.

This week's video, the finale of our Metal Gear Rising let's play:

About this chapter: I love this arc. This is the arc where we finally get Iwao's complete backstory. And the new character introduced in this chapter is just... just imagine I am doing a chef kiss right now. I love this arc so much, I actually went all the way and finished three chapters in one night. I must say, I enjoyed cleaning the texts in this chapter. Never thought I'd say that.

Alright, on to the next point: This week, Momochi Dori-sensei announced the result of the character poll. There were 2684 votes casted and 38 characters receiving those votes. Now I am only going to put only the top 10 because most of the characters afterwards are massive spoiler. So here we go:

10. Senri = 52 votes
9. Tekka = 59 votes
8. Meyui = 93 votes
7. Magatoki = 111 votes
6. Yonaga = 113 votes
5. Kokonoe = 119 votes
4. Hibachi = 266 votes
3. Sanpo = 297 votes
2. Reimei = 505 votes
1. Tobari = 773 votes

Come on, did you think that Reimei and Tobari won't be in top two? Notable rankings including Iwao (11th with 47 votes), Kakyo (14th with 33 votes), Tsumugi and Momochi Dori-sensei (tied at 20th with 9 votes), and Mini Tobaris from chapter 140 (13th with 34 votes).

So here are chapters. Next week will be a Corseltel update (I was planning on something else, but I didn't have a time to translate the script.)

Ake no Tobari Ch.167 & 168 (Important Announcement)

Nanaten here. I wanted to make this announcement sooner but I caught a cold and was down for the entire week. There is no easy way to say this, so I'll start with a tweet from the official Comico twitter account:
Earlier this week, it was announced that Comico webtoon service has launched its English language version of their app with selected Comico titles having their official English release in North America and Singapore. Selected titles such as ReLife, How to Keep a Mummy, Koe Koi, Koiinu, and many others are getting their official English release for the first time. And among those titles, Ake no Tobari is one of them.

So it is sad for me to announce, but I decided to drop this series. It's been fun translating this series for the past 4-5 years. I experienced a lot by translating this series. I got to meet some if not the coolest people I will ever know, I made friends because of Ake no Tobari. Thanks to this series, I managed to go on my path to become a cosplayer and singer. Being able to cosplay as BOTH Reimei and Tobari are my proudest achievements I ever have. So thank you. thank you for your love and support for this series and please to keep supporting this series through Pocket Comics and other official Comico releases. And hey, they actually use "Tobari of the Dawn" as the official English title. So I'll take that as a win.

Now that I'm done with the sappy stuff regarding this announcement, it's time to flip to the other side of the coin to my rant about the new Pocket Comics app. While I'm happy that Comico webtoons are getting official English release, it's frustrating that it's only available on North America and Singapore. And because of that:
I can't read the English Ake no Tobari!!! Is the karma of delaying Ake no Tobari chapters finally getting back at me? Who knows, maybe. One curious thing is that the app is available on Singapore. SINGAPORE, who, if I remember correctly, OWNED the Indonesian Comico service before they shut it down last year! There better be a web version of Pocket Comics people can access, because if not, what's even the point? I still don't know the progress of the official English version of Ake no Tobari, so if anyone who owns the app, please let me know which chapter they're currently at.

While waiting for the web version of Pocket Comics, I'll probably be doing extra chapters of Ake no Tobari that the official version skipped. Back during Indonesian Comico run, some of the extra chapters weren't translated, so the same might applies for Pocket Comics. I'll probably be back working on this series on the off chance that Pocket Comics shuts down, but we all know that's not going to happen. So once again, please support Pocket Comics if you can. Thank you.

Now that the heavy announcement is out of the way, it's time for this week's videos to ease the pain. First one is a skribbl.io session I did with my friends.

The second video is a fandub of The World Ends With You The Animation Trailer by Captain Bonk. I helped co-wrote the script.

Hopefully seeing this video would lessen the sadness of this Ake no Tobari finale.

The usual shout-out to Eva (and Mayu) for helping me the past couple of years. When Mayu first contacted me, it was when Comico started their current ticket system. I was loss at what to do when I was running out of raws, then she came with their aid. Then we started exchange  a couple of mails and they besaically became part of my journey ever since. I really have no idea of what might have happened if it not for you guys. Thank you so much. I hope we have another opportunity to be working together again. We still have one final T-Sensei volume to go. I still haven't worked on the script for that by the way, along with other things that I should've finished like back in January (I said cowering in fear).

So these two chapters mark the end of Rou vs Shimon arc. We actually finished two more chapters after this. But I think these chapters serve better as my finale on Ake no Tobari. It's kind of like Lucifer TV show when it was canceled. We finished the story for the arc, with two bonus chapters on reserve. Maybe I'll release them at another time if you guys demand it. Let me know in the comments below. But for now, this is the finale. And like a finale of a canceled tv show, the story is left open.

So here you go, my final translation of Ake no Tobari. Thank you for your support. Next week will be a Corseltel update.

Ake no Tobari Ch. 103

Nanaten here and welcome back to Citrus Plays! Okay this joke is getting a little bit old. Anyway, to start things off with this week update, I present you the latest episode of Citrus Plays that come out this week. As you can see, I'm playing Inuyasha: The Secret of the Cursed Mask.

I already recorded a bunch of episodes this week. I will upload three episodes every week (Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday 12 am GMT+8). Hopefully, this will become a regular thing along with scanlation and you will enjoy it.

Second news: Patreon announced this week that they have canceled their plan with the new transaction fee (Hooray!). They posted an apology regarding this issue. They realized that they have overstepped their bounds in the relationship between creators and patrons. Hopefully this issue won't happen again.

Third update: about that Reimei cosplay selfie I mentioned last week. I forgot to take out my phone that day. Apologize. But I did take a couple of pictures with a great cosplay photographer friend of mine. I just haven't heard from him yet about how the pic turn out. There might need a couple of editing. I promise to post those pics.

Fourth random stuff: I'll be doing a video shoot today with a bunch of people for a (not so) secret project. The video is scheduled to be released on December 25th. And no, it is not a christmas themed video. I mentioned it in my upcoming Citrus Plays episode, so tune in to find out what it is.

Now finally about this chapter: This is the most popular chapter of Ake no Tobari in Japan. Hence the irremovable "Popular" tag on the image above. I assume it is because of a flashback featuring a huggable Little Tobari. Also a little warning: prepare your heart.

So here's a Little Tobari for this week. Next week: maybe something a little extra (depends on how long that video shoot will take).

Illbeck no Seirei Jutsushi Vol. 1 Ch. 1

Nanaten here. So here it is. What I've been working on these past few weeks. I am very proud to announce that I am officially picking up this spin-off series.

Some of you might be disappointed learning this announcement. I start this project for a reason. You see, this month I began my post-grad study program. Before that, I was at lost on what to do after I graduated. Back when I started this whole translation thing, I was also at lost. But back then at least I have a purpose: to get into college. Then I discovered CnR series.

I want to relive that moment when I first discovered this series. The sense of wonder and adventure. The same kind of sensation I also felt when I discovered Ake no Tobari. And I want to share it with you, fellow readers and CnR fans.

About this chapter: I used the magazine scans I found at purplecandy's blog. So the quality is quite low. It was not until yesterday I found out that there's a tankobon scans available. I might redo this chapter later.

As I already told in the summary of this manga, this is a short series. I will do this monthly and it will take the second sponsored chapter slot. Let me know if you like this series and want to see the continuation of it down in the comments. And who knows, some abandoned projects might return.

Nanaten's Random Friday

So, yeah, it's happening.

I've seen many (well, actually, five) scanlators who have created a patreon page, so I decided to make one as well, because clearly that paypal and adsense didn't work out.

I will still be going to release a chapter each week. This patreon is just a motivation thing. I'm thinking of releasing a double chapter for every milestone (which I haven't decided yet). As for the reward: an earlier preview on latest chapter, I guess.

Unfortunately, I'm still a beginner in this content creating thingy, so I would like a suggestion from you for the goals and rewards and stuff. Just leave it in the comments below.

My New Year's Resolution

Nanaten's Random Friday

Happy New Year('s Eve. But you're probably going to read this on Friday), everybody! My 2015 resolution was trying to stay alive. And I did it! I actually managed to stay alive for one whole year. Not that I'm dying or something, but you get the idea.

A lot of things has happened within the year, I got involved in a child kidnapping (sort of), questioned by my vice-dean (and many people I know) because of my sidelock, getting back on scanlating again, my first VLOG (and I stopped completely for some reason), my first (terrible) album, finish translating Fudekage (I should go back and fix all of the errors), got interested in bara shota doujins (damn you, Torakitchen!), and my first job as an event host (based on the pictures, people seemed to have a good time).

I have to say, it's been a fun year. I just hope that 2016 is going to be a lot more fun. I have many plans for 2016: another album, youtube activities, and more manga to translate.

We'll be starting our album recording in January. It's another anime song cover album for my cosplay community's fifth anniversary. Also we'll be re-recording our previous album. Hopefully, I won't mess with anything. I went to karaoke for the first time last night and the result wasn't pretty.

I've been thinking of becoming a youtuber once I graduate and I have some pretty good idea for sketches. Question is: "what kind of youtuber shall I become?" Should I be a vlogger, comedy, singer, gamer, or unboxer? Then I realized, "Hey, this is my youtube channel. I can do anything I want!" I just hope no one will sue me for copyright. (Anyway, does anyone know a cheap tripod for smartphones?)

I haven't worked on any manga since the last update. Shura no Toki volume 16 is expected to be released on February, so I'll be working on that once I'm done with Yoshitsune arc. However I'll be focused on my academics starting February, so it's going to take a while. So here's a teaser of what's coming in 2016:

Samurai Sensei

Kaiouki

Tekken Chinmi Legends

... and many more coming.

Oh, in case if you're curious, my new year's resolution for 2016 is to get famous on something not crime related (and to stay alive).

So what's your New Year's Resolution? Let me know in the comments below.
