Ake no Tobari Ch. 298-299 & CnR-KM Ch. 42

Nanaten here absolutely forgetting that I have a scanlation blog to manage. My brother's wedding planning has been hectic. The wedding is in two weeks. I barely have time to rest. And oh, my cats full of fleas, which transfers on to my bed, resulted in me getting less sleep because they keep biting me in my sleep. My entire body is covered in bug bites and scars from scratching.

I made a music video

Early this month, they released a Live Action TV Special of Great Teacher Onizuka called "GTO Revival". It's a continuation of the 1998 live action adaptation of Great Teacher Onizuka. This particular adaptation holds a special place in my heart. The 1998 live action was the first adaptation of the original manga, preceeding the anime. It was the first GTO media I watched as a kid back in the early 2000s. The story touched me in a core level, it legit inspired me to take a carreer path in teaching. So when hearing about the GTO Revival featuring the returning cast from that particular adaptation, you can tell how excited I was.

Back in 2018, I did a cover of the theme song of the live action series. It was well received. When the announcement of the TV special came around, the view count of that cover skyrocketted. That being said, I wasn't satisfied with the video because of the filter I put on it. So with the Revival series in mind, I thought of remaking the cover with a full blown music video.

Also I watched the TV Special. It was alright.

It's been a while

Nanaten here wishing everyone a happy (belated) Turkey Day. Now time to sing Padoru for the next 30 days:

How have you guys been? I can't believe it's been three months since the last update. A lot has and hasn't changed since then. So why don't we catch up?

I was depressed

You know how one bad day can just send you to a deep end? One particular day back in October, I took L's after L's. In the span of twenty four hours, I: had the worst experience at a local DMV, lost my dad's money, my job application didn't fall through because of weird technicality, my gacha pull was a dud, and my stream got copyrighted. All those (and more) happened on a single day and I just couldn't handle it. The next couple of days, I just stared at my bedroom ceiling. I thought I could pull through, but the thing about grief is that it comes in waves. Just when I thought I got out of it, another wave crashes through. Next thing I know, I was shedding a tear while watching a Drawfee compilation.

During that period I had this constant pressure from everyone around me. Streaming was my only creative outlet. But I see that streaming on youtube lead to nowhere. Which leads to the second headline:

I'm on Twitch

I guess this is old news by this point: Twitch announced that they finally allows simulstream to other platforms. So I thought, why the heck not? I'd considered streaming on twitch, but I couldn't just leave my (almost nonexistent) audience on youtube. This simulcast allows me to gain more followers on twitch, while still making content on youtube. And, since I'm simulcasting, the VODs goes straight to youtube. No fuss no muss.

So yeah, I stream at least once every weekend. I play games, discuss manga, and work on my manga translation there. If you wanna say hi, just go to https://twitch.tv/citrus_nanaten and I'll see you there.

A bunch of covers

During that depression period, one of my creative outlet besides straming was singing. And there was one song that actually got me through that experience: the ending theme of "Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence," 『Tokosiesta』 by Sasanomaly. I haven't watched the anime. The song just landed on my youtube feed, and I just fell in love with it.

I did another Sasanomaly cover a month prior, and people seem to like it. One comment actually suggested me to do more. So I did.

And here's another cover of Yukopi's meme song:

Funny thing: so a Youtaite named Kai host a monthly watch party called Youtaite Rewind where people send their covers they uploaded that given month to listen to. During September and October, I send the Sasanomaly covers and both times the songs got the stream content claimed and blocked worldwide. While people seem to enjoy the covers, I am sincerely sorry that the VODs got blocked.

New Patreon Credit Page

Gone are the monthly patreon shoutout in this blog. All of the Patreon shout-out are now done in a credit page in the download zip files. I took some inspiration (if not entirely ripping off) Souseki scans patreon shoutout page. So if you guys wanna check it out, you can download the zip files, or read the chapters on mangadex.

Okay, now that you've all caught up with the going-ons in the past three months, you may proceed with the chapter. I still wanna talk more about the lower back pain I'm currently suffering at the moment of writing this post, but the pain prevents me from elaborating any further. So, let me know if you find any error or mistake in the chapter in the comments below. I'll see you next week.

I forgot to upload these chapters

Nanaten here. Sorry that I haven't been around here for so long. I got caught up in real life stuff every weekend that I completely forgot to update a post here even though I still post stuff on my patreon that redirects to this blog. So I'm just gonna write stuff that I've already written on my patreon post anyway in chronological order.

I released a "The First Take" cover

or more like "The First Take" style cover video:

I'd been working on this cover for years and It's now released. Special shout-out to @Notaseaturtle for helping me with the mixing and arrangement. The cover turned out absolutely amazing and I'm really quite proud of the end result. For more explanation on the behind-the-scene stuff, just go to my patreon.

I went to a cosplay event for the first time since the pandemic

At the beginning of March, I went along with my parents to visit my brother at the city. During the weekend, I got to go to a cosplay event. first time I've ever been ever since the pandemic. I haven't seen my cosplayer friends in so long. I saw some new faces in the local cosplaying scene and all their costumes were amazing. I was invited to enter the event's J-Song cover competition as my Vtuber persona and it was an experience. While I enjoyed my time at the event, going there alone and not cosplaying did take out half of the excitement. I plan on going to another cosplay event at the city with my brother and cousins in a couple of weeks. Maybe I'll enjoy my time more then.

I got measles

Right after that trip to the city, my father contracted measles, which, a week later, passed on to me. I had the fever, headaches, and blisters all over my body. I was pretty much out of commission for one and a half week. I was mostly recovered at the final Monday of the month, but on the way home from work, I got caught in the passing rain and ended up with a cold which left me out of commission again for the rest of that week.

I went to teacher training program (+Ramadhan)

As soon as I recovered from my cold, I registered for a training program for University lecturer. The program took a couple of weeks which took my entire concentration to attend. But all in all, it was worth it. I gained so many insights on how to better plan my lessons. But still, writing up the report for some of the program assignments were nightmare, especially during Ramadhan cause I was too famished from feasting to actually do anything.

Toranosuke's Birthday

April 10th is the birthday of Toranosuke from Umakawa manga. So to celebrate that, I decided to translate some of the manga Miku Morinaga sensei drew on her twitter page. I did tease about it a couple of years ago when I just finished translating Umakawa. And seeing everyone's reception of the chapters on mangadex makes me glad that this manga is still haven't been forgotten. It's quite touching, really.

Eid Mubarak (+Rocket League)

Which leads us to the end of Ramadhan, a.k.a. Eid'l Fitri, a.k.a. that time of the year my mom cooked too much staple food and our household must suffer the consequences. Earlier this month, my mom bought a refrigerator because our previous one was too small for her to store food. But she's too much of a miser to give up the other fridge, so now the house has two running refrigerators. Boy, can't wait till the electric bill comes out.

Anyway, my siblings came to visit, and we did a lot of catching up. My cousins also came by and with them are their children, which means it's my job to keep them entertained. So I just put them all in my room and had them play video games, mostly Rocket League. Most of those kids have never heard of Rocket League before as their young mind are more accustomed to either Minecraft (on android, to boot), Mobile Legends, or casual mobile games. Young kids these days, amirite?

So I've been spending my time playing Rocket League on casual plays. I tried competitive, but I got owned every match. One of my friends, Rukku, wanted me to play as he's the most experienced Rocket League player in our circle of Vtuber friends. But considering our region differences, and my potato pc, I think it'll be a while before we can do a rocket league collab stream together.

Umarekawattemo, Watashi to Kekkonshite masu ka? Vol. 3 Ch. 14

Nanaten here. I ran out of opener to say. I did for some reason started playing Sonic Riders on PC, so there's that. I also have been playing a lot Mega Man X Dive. So if you play the game too, my ID is Y7DBGRGR.

This week's video: our IDCB entry is finally up. I could put this on last week's post, but there were complications along the way during upload. So here it is.
We worked so hard on this video. These past month have been tough for the staff who worked on this video. We just want people to enjoy what we have made. I hope you like it. And if you do, please leave a comment in the video, telling that I sent you. It will mean so much for them.

About this chapter: Boy, what a roller coaster of feelings this chapter is. That is all I have to say about this chapter without spoiling anything. That aside, I can't believe how popular this series is on Reddit. Shout-out to TotoroTheGreat for the threads. But if you could please link it to the posts instead of a direct link, that'll be nice.

So here's the chapter. I think after this chapter everyone will have to cool down with CnRKM next week.

Umarekawatte mo mata, Watashi to Kekkon shite kuremasu ka Vol. 1 Ch. 4

Nanaten here. First I would like to send my thoughts and prayers to the victims of the Kyoto Animation Studio Fire. It was such a tragedy for it to happen in such a way. I have so many fond anime series produced by them and for the staff that worked on those series to be injured, and almost half of them died, is devastating. My heart goes to all those affected.

I remember the first time I danced to Hare Hare Yukai. I was in Eleventh grade and we had a self study session. We all got bored, so I grabbed a laptop, blasted the song and started dancing in front of the class. Though  my classmates didn't know either the song or the anime series, they all cheered as I messed up the sequence.

I wish for everyone to show and provide support to them during this disaster. Sentai Filmworks has created a crowdfunding campaign to help the victims. Please, do not hesitate to donate for the cause. If you can't, you can also send your message using hashtag #PrayforKyoAni or #prayforKyotoAnimation on social media. Really, anything supportive helps.

Anyway, I'm turning 25 tomorrow. I wish I could be excited about it, but the Kyoto Animation fire really sucks any resemblance of joy this week. I'm also busy working on my thesis (which explains the inconsistent release). And my aunt has a tumor in his abdomen area and is about to go through surgery. But silver lining: my mom's in town so I don't have to worry about my meals at the moment.

About this chapter: This chapter broke me. Don't let the cover fool you. I was bawling in tears after I finished typesetting this chapter. I've read this chapter a year ago and I almost cried back then. Then translating this series gave me the opportunity to revisit it and... well... you already know what happened.

That is the actual reason why I decided to postpone this chapter to this week. A few weeks ago, right after I finished typesetting this chapter (and was lying on the floor, crying), Mayu sent me the latest T&T chapters. As you already know, I really enjoyed chapter 29 of T-Sensei. When it was time to pick which series should I release that week, between choosing a chapter that gave me pure joy and a chapter that gave me a case of waterworks, I think the choice is obvious. Nevertheless, I did enjoy this chapter quite a bit. It's just I needed a time to heal after working on this chapter.

This has been a pretty depressing post. I apologize. Next week will be T&T release.

Ake no Tobari Ch. 151 & T-Sensei Vol. 5 Ch. 58

Nanaten here! So turns out I got bored of SnT sooner than I thought. Combine that with other IRL stuff, I couldn't get any translation done the past couple of weeks. Luckily, Eva (and Mayu) pulled through and sent me the edited chapters of T&T. So here you go.

This week I have three videos I would like to share to you all. First is a cover of my favorite artist:
Chihiro Onitsuka has always been my go to Japanese artist for strong melancholic songs. Every time I feel depressed or melancholic, I would go to my playlist and listen to her songs. Whether I did a good cover or not, I will leave the judgement to you guys.

Second video is a chorus video by Hartless I participated a few months ago and just released this week:
After the success of the previous From Y to Y 41 People chorus, he decided to go bigger with his project. With 70 people participating, I was happy to be able to join this chorus.

Last video is a cosplay video I shot last week at a local event:
I was at an event tending a photo booth. I decided to make another cosplay video because it's been a while since the last time. I shot this using Xiaomi 4 action camera attached to a DJi stabilizer. I was cosplaying at the beginning of the video as Dice Arisugawa from Hypnosis Mic series. My brother shot all of my scenes. I only noticed later, but for 5 years I've been making cosplay videos, I've never actually shot a serious cosplay video of myself, so I was inexperienced at that department. My brother got frustrated over how I was unable to do motion and facial expression. During shooting process, I couldn't get a full grasp of my character very well so I ended up as stiff as a board. Let's just say I wasted 4GB worth of footage because of that. Nevertheless, It was a great experience.

Speaking of videos: I just received a takedown notice from Marvelous Inc. on my Shura no Toki video after I tried to appeal at youtube. I guess that means the Shura no Toki abridged is as good as terminally ill. I couldn't take a risk of getting my channel suspended. But I also want to make this project a reality. I just couldn't find myself the motivation to keep going and fight for it.

About these chapters: as per usual, shout out to Eva and Mayu for the always amazing cleaning and typesetting. This chapter of Tobari, we take a look of Tobari's and Reimei's introspective about Tobari becoming the new three great demons before shifting to Iwao, the main focus of this arc. I tried to give Rou a threatening voice by using a certain font, hopefully it could do the job. On T-Sensei, we have kids and their hijinks as usual. I tried various fonts to get T-Sensei's retorts as accurate as possible to various effects. Does anyone know good font for that kind of retort?

So here are the chapters. Next week will be either T&T or Umakawa update.

Which Song Should I Sing Live?

Nanaten's Random Poll

It's been so long since the last time I asked your opinion on random stuff.

Recently, I've been doing nothing but translating anime songs. And of course I want to put it on a good use by making other people's ears bleed with my annoying voice.

So here's the deal, Makassar Toys Expo 2016 is coming up and there will (probably, it's still hasn't been confirmed yet) be an Anisong Competition. I already finished writing lyrics for Bahasa Indonesia version of two songs:

First one is Angel Voice from Macross 7:

And the other is White Light from Tales of Zestiria:

Don't blame my inability of mixing, blame my inability to sing.

I don't know which song should I sing. That's where you guys come in. I mean, I'm gonna be terrible for sure.

So cast your vote now. Poll will be closed August 30th.

Which song should I sing?

Angel Voice (Macross 7)
White Light (Tales of Zestiria)
Sage Quotes

Citrus Project sings Identity (Shura no Toki OP)

Nanaten's Random Friday

I got bored.

A month ago I mentioned that I'm gonna do a cover for Shura no Toki's OP. But where's the fun of just listening to my amazingly annoying voice (also I kinda f*cked up my youtube account)?  So let's do something different, shall we?

Premise: record your voice singing Shura no Toki OP. Show everyone just how much you love this series.

You can get the song here, vocal, instrumental, and lyrics included.

Sorry if I kinda messed up with the instrumental version, let me know if you can do better.

Make sure all your files vocals only, no background noise, mp3/wav/flac preferred.

Protips:
  • Make sure you turn off your fan/air conditioner before recording, background noise is always a mood killer (especially when there's a murderer behind you when you're recording... get it?). Also try not to click your mouse too much, it does show up on the recording.
  • Keep a safe distance between you and your mic.
  • Your song doesn't have to sound good, but the absolute golden rule is that you have to try your best. Seriously, it might sound corny, but you can clearly hear the difference between someone who's just going through the motions and someone who's giving it their all. So don't hold back, feel free to let it all out! Show me your love!
Send your recording to fridwan31@gmail.com. Deadline: October 3rd

[Indonesian Cover] Ride on The Wave (Bakumatsu Rock OST short ver.)

After yesterday's Shura no Mon fiasco, it's obvious that I was exhausted. So, instead of translating a new chapter, today I made an Indonesian fandub of Bakumatsu Rock's OST.
