Kaiouki Vol. 13 Ch. 40

Nanaten here wishing everyone a happy holidays. I just finished translating a one-shot manga. You can read it over at my patreon page, or watch my twitch VOD. Please follow me on twitch T_T I beg you.

Alright, I won't bother you guys anymore. I'm just here to drop this chapter cuz right after this, I'm gonna stream Summon Night. See you later.

Kaiouki Chapter 40: Read Online | Donwload

It's been a while

Nanaten here wishing everyone a happy (belated) Turkey Day. Now time to sing Padoru for the next 30 days:

How have you guys been? I can't believe it's been three months since the last update. A lot has and hasn't changed since then. So why don't we catch up?

I was depressed

You know how one bad day can just send you to a deep end? One particular day back in October, I took L's after L's. In the span of twenty four hours, I: had the worst experience at a local DMV, lost my dad's money, my job application didn't fall through because of weird technicality, my gacha pull was a dud, and my stream got copyrighted. All those (and more) happened on a single day and I just couldn't handle it. The next couple of days, I just stared at my bedroom ceiling. I thought I could pull through, but the thing about grief is that it comes in waves. Just when I thought I got out of it, another wave crashes through. Next thing I know, I was shedding a tear while watching a Drawfee compilation.

During that period I had this constant pressure from everyone around me. Streaming was my only creative outlet. But I see that streaming on youtube lead to nowhere. Which leads to the second headline:

I'm on Twitch

I guess this is old news by this point: Twitch announced that they finally allows simulstream to other platforms. So I thought, why the heck not? I'd considered streaming on twitch, but I couldn't just leave my (almost nonexistent) audience on youtube. This simulcast allows me to gain more followers on twitch, while still making content on youtube. And, since I'm simulcasting, the VODs goes straight to youtube. No fuss no muss.

So yeah, I stream at least once every weekend. I play games, discuss manga, and work on my manga translation there. If you wanna say hi, just go to https://twitch.tv/citrus_nanaten and I'll see you there.

A bunch of covers

During that depression period, one of my creative outlet besides straming was singing. And there was one song that actually got me through that experience: the ending theme of "Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence," 『Tokosiesta』 by Sasanomaly. I haven't watched the anime. The song just landed on my youtube feed, and I just fell in love with it.

I did another Sasanomaly cover a month prior, and people seem to like it. One comment actually suggested me to do more. So I did.

And here's another cover of Yukopi's meme song:

Funny thing: so a Youtaite named Kai host a monthly watch party called Youtaite Rewind where people send their covers they uploaded that given month to listen to. During September and October, I send the Sasanomaly covers and both times the songs got the stream content claimed and blocked worldwide. While people seem to enjoy the covers, I am sincerely sorry that the VODs got blocked.

New Patreon Credit Page

Gone are the monthly patreon shoutout in this blog. All of the Patreon shout-out are now done in a credit page in the download zip files. I took some inspiration (if not entirely ripping off) Souseki scans patreon shoutout page. So if you guys wanna check it out, you can download the zip files, or read the chapters on mangadex.

Okay, now that you've all caught up with the going-ons in the past three months, you may proceed with the chapter. I still wanna talk more about the lower back pain I'm currently suffering at the moment of writing this post, but the pain prevents me from elaborating any further. So, let me know if you find any error or mistake in the chapter in the comments below. I'll see you next week.

CnR-KM Vol. 5 Ch. 38

Nanaten here getting ready for a school staff retreat. My eyes are super dry right now.

Recently I've been really into The Legend of Luo Xiaohei, a Chinese web animated series, and its extended universe. I saw a clip of The Legend of Hei, the animated movie prequel of the webseries, on youtube, and immediately in love with the series. If you haven't watched it yet, I highly recommend you guys to do so. For the following week, I was struck with that lethargic feeling you get after finishing a long-running series and incapable to move on. What was the last series you watch/read that gives you that feeling? Let me know in the comments.

Other random news: they just announced that an anime adaptation of Haigakura by Takayama Shinobu (Amatsuki) is officially in the works. The announcement was leaked a couple of weeks back by MangaMogura. It was one of the highlights of that week for me. I've been a huge fan of Takayama Shinobu since I read Amatsuki back in highschool. And I've read their other works as well: Haigakura, Mr. Morning, Mr. Applicant, etc. I even cosplayed as Ichiyou, the main character of Haigakura, in 2015. It was one of my first cosplay I've ever done. So yeah, so excited for the anime and finally have my old costume relevant again.

So here's the chapter. As usual, let me know if you find any error or mistake. I'll see you once I'm back from the retreat.

Ake no Tobari Ch. 282-283

Nanaten here, feeling tired most of the week, but nonetheless very excited. That is until I heard about the devastating wildfire raging in Maui. My good friend and fellow Vtuber Cooky Usagida lives in Hawaii and some of her friends actually live in Maui. So I just wanna help spread the words. Luckily, @chiliflakess created a thread on mutual aid sites to help with the donation and relief. Please consider donating!

Now on to the stuff I've been doing this week. This week, I participated in Makassar Creative Expo J-Karaoke contest as my Vtuber persona. I asked the organizers if I can join as a Vtuber, and they said yes. I had to pre-record my performance, which I ripped from my birthday concert. From the clip my friend sent me, it went very well. I also received a wonderful news early this week. I'm doing a massive project and it will come out in December. If it goes well, it could change the trajectory of my Vtubing.

Other random stuff: This week, Manga Mogura leaked of a news about anime adaptation of Haigakura, a manga by Takayama Shinobu (Amatsuki). I've been a fan of Takayama Shinobu's works since back in highschool. And I love Haigakura. One of my early cosplay was the main character from the manga. I still have the costume in my brother's place. It's still hasn't been officially announce yet, but I'm still excited nonetheless. This news actually carried me all week.

Speaking of anime adaptations: the first teaser trailer for Sengoku Youko just dropped and, ho boy, am I extra hyped. I talked on stream about how I'm a Mizukami Satoshi fan and how excited I was back when they announced Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer anime. And like most Mizukami fan, how disappointed I was when the anime came out. I couldn't even finish the anime. But seeing the teaser trailer for Sengoku Youko made me hopeful of the adaptation. And the fact that White Fox studio is adapting the entire manga over the course of 3 cours gets me even hyper.

I still remember the night I read the final chapter of Sengoku Youko. Me and my friends were organizing an English Language camp and we had a talent show that night. I was just sitting in the back of the stage reading the live TL session at 4chan. Each refresh, a new page got translated. And when the final page where the characters said goodbye to the readers, I look around to the people at the camp, and just take in the scenery. That moment, of saying goodbye to the world and characters you've been following for years, and their journey. Just appreciating that moment and that feeling of being surrounded by the things that you love. I think that's how I'm going to feel when I finally finish translating Ake no Tobari.

So here are the chapters. As usual, let me know in the comments if you find any error or mistakes in the chapter, or just hit me up on my discord server. See you later.

CnR-KM Vol. 5 Ch. 37 + Maria's Curse announcement

Nanaten here! I think we all can agree that Twitter's rebranding to X is a colossal fuck up, right? Okay, cool.

This week, I uploaded my cover of Fantasy on soundcloud. It's been a while since I check out my soundcloud page and some of the comments I get there were pretty harsh. And then I decided to give my old covers a listen. And you know what? They're right. What was I thinking back then when I uploaded those covers? I must've thought that I was some hot shit back then. Like, bruh, you don't even sing it at the right key. Comparing my old cover and newer ones, there's an improvement there, however subtle it is. The vocal training does pay off. Thanks, coach.

Oh, right, my birthday! I celebrated my birthday a couple of weeks ago. And as you know, I did a birthday concert.

Setting up this concert took me a couple of months. From picking up the setlist, recording the songs, doing motion capture, etc. Mostly the time I spent on working on the A.I. voice models of me and my friends to use. I already have permissions from all my content creator friends who were kind enough to provide me with their voice to train their a.i. with. But for some reason, my a.i. was completely broken. I must've overtrained it, because my a.i. voice came out like it had speech impediment. It just gave up on pronouncing consonants. I might going to have to redo my a.i. model. But now that my birthday is over, I'll probably refrain from using a.i., and instead just use my actual vocal.

Recently I've been busy with helping with my town's preparation for Indonesian independence day. I was selected to be a committee to train kids for the independence day ceremony. I mostly help with the administrative side of things, and show up during rehearsal from time to time. If this event goes well, fingers crossed, I might be able to upgrade my computer so I can stream properly. That is if I don't go broke from commissioning artists for stuff.

During my birthday concert, I commissioned artists to do some key visuals and channel logo. After one and two commissions, I might be getting addicted to it. It really doesn't help too due to the fact that hiring domestic artists is a whole lot cheaper (like seriously, the key visual art for my concert only cost $5). And recently, I commissioned an artist to make a bunch of stickers for my discord (and for the low low price of $2, hell yeah). No more blackmailing my artist friend into doing my bidding.

Anyway enough of that, let's talk about Maria's Curse. Thanks to everyone's support, Maria's Curse one shot manga actually won the preliminaries of the one-shot tournament to the final round. So many comments and support on the app from fellow Ake no Tobari fans. But, we're not done yet! There's one more voting round for the final! The procedure is similar to the previous one. Go to Ganma's twitter account, and retweet the manga! Or go to the manga's page on Ganma app, and leave a comment there. The voting period ends on August 13. And as an incentive, Momochi Dori-sensei actually posted a bunch of illustrations and short manga on their twitter page, which I also translated in this post. So please, give it a go!

So here are the chapters, it was Saturday when I started writing this post, and as it's already Sunday by the time this post is uploaded.

As usual, let me know in the comments or discord if you find any error or mistake. I'll see you next week.

Illbeck Epilogue (+crossover chapter) & Ake no Tobari Ch. 280-281

Nanaten here. Again, been so busy with my Birthday celebration that I forgot everything else. I was supposed to record a bunch of skits for the birthday concert, but I got a call at literally 6 am this morning by my dad to go help with the corn harvest and it is now 11:38pm. The concert is in 6 days and I still need to clean up the motion capture animations.

Oh, for those who hasn't seen my twitter or my patreon posts: yeah so my birthday is coming up in a week, and to celebrate, I'm going to do a virtual birthday concert thing on my youtube channel. I have so many things done leading up to it, so let me give you guys a rundown.

1. Citrus Project Discord Server is now open

After contemplating it for the past couple of months, I finally decided to make Citrus Project's official discord server. In this server you can get the latest updates on all of my projects, chat and discuss your favorite manga, and other cool stuff. Patrons will get a special role and access to patrons only channel where I post exclusive content and sneak peek. So go ahead and click the link down below to get started.

2. A bunch of A.I. Covers

For the past couple of months, I've been really interested in making A.I. covers. At first, I only make an A.I. model of myself so that I can save time recording a cover. But then I started to make A.I. models of my friends (with their permission, of course). The idea is that I would use these A.I. covers for the birthday concert. I did a stream where I showcased some of the A.I. covers I'll be using for the concert. So here's a preview of one of the songs:

I've been trying to do a cover of Daybreak Frontline for years now, but I could never get the vocal timing right, even with the Mwk remix which was a slow ballad. Thankfully, with the help of a.i. I can do a cover of the song. Working on this cover also sent me down to a SynthV rabbit hole. Long story short, Genbu is now my husbando (jk).

As an equal measure, I posted a second a.i. cover
Fun fact: this is actually the first A.I. cover I worked on. It was meant to be a.i. model showcase for me and my friend, Cooky Usagida. This was posted a while later because of the motion capture and video editing. For the motion capture, I used XR Animator that allows me to capture motion using my camera and export it in VMD format. The program also supports mixamo motion, so I combined both motions together and this is the final results.

There's actually a third a.i. cover video I just made last night. But the video won't be available for public until I received the permission from an artist whose illustration I use for the video. But, the private link to the video is available on my discord server.

3. Birthday gift and messages submission

I'm also holding this event on twitter and on my discord server where you can submit birthday messages and gifts using google form. You can submit gifts such as illustrations, videos, and other cool stuff by clicking the image down below or this link. All submission will be showcased at the concert event. So be sure to read the rules beforehand.

So, yeah, so excited for the birthday event. Again, the concert will be broadcasted on my youtube channel. Probably going to do a watchalong stream as well on discord. Can't wait to talk to you guys there! And oh, here's the thumbnail illustration for the concert. Shoutout to @takahiro_abd for the illustration.

Maria's Curse (One-shot manga by the Author of Ake no Tobari)

Nanaten here! I've been so busy preparing for the #NanatenTurnsAnotherYear birthday concert, I actually forgot to do any script this month. However, I found a manga that actually wants to make me translate it and typeset it on the same day. Mostly because of the strict deadline nature of how I want to support this series.

So this is Maria Ju (Maria's Curse, the Ju for curse as in "Jujutsu Kaisen"), a brand new one-shot by Momochi Dori-sensei, a.k.a. the author of Ake no Tobari. They are finally back with a brand new story after the completion of Tobari (and tons of recuperations). The story is about this highschool couple who has to fight a demon who broke out of its seal.

My first impression is a bit rough. It is an odd feeling having to transition of reading Momochi Dori's work from webtoon format to regular manga format. Well, the lack of color, for one. But the story is more slow paced compared to Tobari despite having more panel count in comparison. But it's a welcome change nontheless.

I also like how this manga is has more focused on romance. I mean, the bromance in Ake no Tobari is one of the main selling point, ngl, but the series never went on that angle (not yet as of my point in the translation anyway). I like the fact that the main male lead, Kiyotsugu, is essentially a himbo. And the contrast between the lead just gives a unique charm, as cliché as it might be. Also, the fact that the leads are already an established couple is kind of a breath of fresh air.

You can watch the VOD of the typesetting process here:

Anyway, if you guys want to see this manga gets serialized, please be sure to leave a comment on the Ganma! app page of the manga. I leave the tutorial on how to register an account on the stream. Or you can retweet this. Help this manga get serialized!!!

Another announcements: I made a discord server! I had a lot of discussion on how to increase my engagement with my audience, and considering that I've been falling off this couple of months, I decided to go hail mary and create my own discord server. There, you can join and chat, and discuss your favorite manga together, and maybe join a VC session or two! Just click the link here or use the qr code to join the server now!

So here is the chapter. As usual, let me know if you find any mistake or error in the comments below (or actually just hit me up on discord).
