CnR-KM Vol. 3 Ch. 22-23

Nanaten here. My part-time gig is over so I can focus back on what's important: procrastinating on every other project. Just kidding, but I was away for quite sometime, might as well do a soft reboot of some sort.

This week's video: I sang the chorus on a "Is There Still Anything That Love Can Do?" from Weathering with You movie cover on Youtaite Connect.

Props to all vocalists and staff who took part on the project. The end result came up amazingly. I was actually offered a solo part on the project, but I was busy during the time of recording and could only sang the Tenor part.

Random stuff: I started watching CSI: Vegas this week. I only found out early this year that CBS is bringing back CSI, and I was surprised. The show was such a phenomenon when it first aired. I first watched the show back when I was 12. Supposed to say, I was one of the people who caught the CSI effect. While I do prefer CSI: Miami, there's something about the OG's gritty and dark tone. And the fact that they brought back Peterson and Fox just brings so much childhood nostalgia for me. One thing I noticed from the new show is the transition they used between scenes. In the original, they would use flashes of establishing shots of  Las Vegas, but now it would use shots with the sort of transitions you would find in a youtube video (you know, the whip pans and zooms). It doesn't take away from the story, but it's noticeable for me. But I do like the overarching story structure. They never had that back in the original run.

Anyway, recently, I spend my time playing Wii games. My brother brought out his Nintendo Wii console that we used to play. When I do my Just Dance streams, I would use Dolphin Emulator. Unfortunately, when I stream using emulator, the Wiimote would constantly disconnect from the computer. So right now, I am waiting for my HDMI converter to arrive so I can stream the console instead. As of the moment, I am enjoying Okami on the Wii.

About these chapters: to make up for the lack of releases this couple of weeks, I decided to pull a double chapters. So this is the final chapters of CnR-KM volume 3. The whole Agrina's journey in Corseltel has lead this moment, where she finally succeeds Iphrov and become the next fire dragon mage. One of the reviews on Manga Updates mention the customs of Corseltel where previous dragon mages would be just sent out to the outside world once their duties are over. So where does that leave Iphrov once he leaves Corseltel?

Iphrov in my opinion is one of the least utilized dragon mages in the series (right after Morin and Miria). He only served as a side character for either Agrina's or Meo's storyline. But I guess that's just what happens to the older characters in the series. Nevertheless, I think they handled his departure quite well. We knew that he would leave once Agrina takes his position. It's just the matter of how he would go.

So here are the chapters. I am halfway done with the script for Volume 4, but I think I may have to go with a different series for a while. In the meantime, next week will be a Tobari update.

Ake no Tobari Ch. 217-218

Nanaten here. This month has been the busiest month I've ever been so far. I took a part time job as a livestream operator for a series of webinar at schools. I guess my Vtubing career is paying off. But I often find myself completely exhausted after I get home. To add, I had to take a civil servant exam for the upcoming month, I couldn't find a time to work on any chapter. I even had to put my Vtubing on hiatus. Silver lining: I do manage to get my sleeping schedule on track this time.

This week's video: a long time Ake no Tobari fan and a good friend, Robubead, created this beautiful Ake no Tobari AMV this week. Question: Does Kuize's death scene still count as a spoiler by this point?

If you like this AMV, be sure to drop by to his channel and subscribe to him.

I mentioned at the beginning at I'm taking a civil servant exam. I am applying for a job as an English lecturer. I've been studying for the exam this couple of months, listening to audio materials and reading books and stuff. I somehow managed to pass the first screening and currently waiting for my results. The thing is, the job at another regency, meaning I would have to move to another place if I get the job. While the prospect is causing me anxiety, I can't help but to get excited as well, career wise. Fingers crossed, guys.

About this chapter: It is probably because of my first impression of him, but I wasn't a fan of Sanpo. When he first appeared, he was a demon who tried to hurt Tsumugi and Minori. And Tobari came along, and he is now treated as the dumb birb. But it seems that Momo Chidori-sensei likes to draw him, so he is more featured in the recent chapters and doodles. Even in the recent popularity poll, he was ranked third, right after Tobari and Reimei. And in the upcoming chapter, you will see why. This is as much as Sanpo's character arc as is Reimei's and Iwao's. So look forward to that.

So here're the chapters. Next week (hopefully) will be a Corseltel update.

CnR-KM Vol. 3 Ch. 21

Nanaten here. So last week, my internet was down for a couple of days. By the time it was up again, it was already Thursday, so I had to delay this chapter for a week. On the other hand, I actually finished Tales of Arise and now lurking at Tales subreddit for Law memes, because Law is a good boi and there's nothing you can do to change that.

Speaking of games that I finished, on this week's (or rather, a couple of week's ago) VOD:

I finally finished One Hand Clapping (or rather, what's currently available on Steam Early Access). I had an enjoyable time playing this game. It makes me want to sing again. In fact, I finished record my parts for Twilight Night, so look forward to that.

Random stuff: I also spent the week reading The Kurosagi Corpse Delivary Service. I don't know why I need to write about this now, but I don't think I'll have another chance to talk about this series. There's just something charming about the black humor in this manga. Such a shame that Dark Horse canceled the English translation. It had, hands down, the most detailed translation effort I've ever seen in a manga. So I decided to read the available Japanese raws, and I can see how this series is still going strong in Japan. There's a shake-up in the status quo that happened at volume 21 which kept the series fresh. I've never seen a large shake up like that in an episodic manga. Then again, the series has been running for almost 20 years.

About this chapter: ah screw it, it's just a short story collection, so let's just talk about the new Corseltel series. (WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD)
The Baby Dragons have grown up, AAAAAAAAAA!!!

I only read Koryu Monogatari up to volume 10. I read a couple of previews on Bookwalker, and that's it. It was April, when I heard about the announcement of the final volume of Koryu Monogatari. I was honestly surprised that the series ended. That and a bonus booklet that came with it that actually spoiled some stuff for me in regards of certain characters. In Koryu Monogatari, they had a couple of long story arcs that tied loose ends that has been there since the original series. When I heard of the final volume announcement, I thought that there weren't any more stories to tell. And how glad I was wrong about that, because Ayuma Isurugi-sensei announced a new Corseltel series. And for the first time ever, It's available to read on the Online version of Zero-Sum.

This new series is clearly aimed towards long time Corseltel fans. The first chapter of each incarnation of the series always acted as a soft reboot of sorts. They would re-introduce us to the setting and characters. But not in this one. The first chapter feels more like a third season premiere of a TV show. They didn't have to introduce the characters because the readers have already familiar with them, even as they grow older. And that's the premise of this new series: the baby dragons are now on their teens and set on their own adventure OUTSIDE OF CORSELTEL.

As of first chapter, only Sa-ta, A-ta, and Ta-ta are venturing outside

This opens to a lot of storylines. So far in the main series, we only had a couple of second hand information of the outside world from testimonies and flashbacks. We had a taste of outside world with Illbeck no Seireijutsushi. In that Spin-off, we had an interesting perspective of an outsider looking for Corseltel. And now, the dragons get to experience that first hand.

The art remains solid, it is what you expect from the series. I do like the new character designs. It really shows how the characters have grown. Even Marciel, who only appears in two panels. While in terms of outfit, they don't change much. The only noteworthy change is Sa-ta, who is now carrying a sword with his emblem and wearing glasses instead of headband. Fun fact: in the Drama CD of CnRM, Sa-ta was voiced by Junko Takeuchi, most famously known for voicing Naruto. So yeah, there is a parallel.

New Character, adding to what people already regarded as an extensive cast for a manga about dragon babysitters.

In the dragons journey, they are now alone. They are accompanied by Theod Cardell, a young son of a merchant tasked by a certain someone to aid the young dragons. However, Theod himself has a past and a secret of his own. He certainly is a nice addition to round up the cast for the new series. He sort of act as the audience's surrogate. It's always nice to see an outsider's perspective to an already established character dynamics. There's a scene where he remarks about how confusing the dragon names are. The overall mystery about his past is also intriguing. I can't wait to see how he would shake things up for the new series.

I've already finished the script and collected the raws for the first chapter. And I must say, obviously since it is a sequel, there are a bunch of spoilers of Koryu Monogatari and Illbeck. So I may only start working on this after I'm done with Illbeck and past a certain point of Koryu Monogatari, because it may confuse a bunch of people otherwise. Koryu Boukenki is published sporadically, due to Ayuma Isurugi-sensei's health issue. That being said, she recently has started her own twitter account where she would post updates on her condition and the series. She would also answer questions about the world settings and such. So please consider following her on twitter @isurugi0000000 and send your support.

And that's my first impression of Corseltel no Ryujutsushi Koryu Boukenki. Anyway, here's the Koryu Monogatari chapter. As usual, let me know what you think about the chapter in the Disqus section. Also let me know if you find any error or mistake. Next update will be Ake no Tobari.

Ake no Tobari Chapter 213-216

Nanaten here. I spent the whole week playing Tales of Arise, which explains why I'm so late writing this post. When the game was announced last year, I was skeptical because of how different it was compared to previous games. But I must say I am having a blast playing it. The combat feels so smooth and fluid compared to Berseria. And the graphics is so beautiful, for the lack of a better term. The game felt difficult at first, but once all of the characters and features are introduced, the game is a breeze to play.

The story definitely feels more fast paced compared to the previous entry Previous entries would start slowly, getting us familiarized with the settings, but not this game. It immediately introduces the characters and the central conflict right away. Most of the conflicts gets resolved immediately. I did read a couple of spoilers on TV tropes while I play, but I was still surprised when they revealed the major plot twists nonetheless.

As for the characters, while they're not on the level of Vesperia, I was started to warmed up to them before the first half of the game. Each had they're own distinct playstyle (I mostly stick with Law because I like the speedy type). However, I must say, some characters almost have little involvement or character arc after their introduction. I mean sure, the story mostly centers around Alphen and Shionne, but the lack of character arc of some characters is noticeable.

All-in-all, Tales of Arise definitely succeeded in taking the franchise to a new direction. While it kinda suck that there is a lack of anime portrait skits, pre-emptive strike, and multi-player, I had a wonderful time playing this game. If you're a fan of Tales series or JRPG in general, I can't recommend this series enough. I'm currently at (what I assumed to be) the final dungeon and I'm planning of playing again once I finished writing this post.

About these chapters: these chapters were an attempt at a Sub-a-thon stream I did last week. You can watch the VOD over at my patreon. I was joined by a couple of friends, Morugaki and Roach BC, who kept me company while I typeset the chapters. Special shout-out to ANONYMOUS for the donation, hence the extra chapter. I may do more of these kinda stream in the future. But for the mean time, I'm kinda busy preparing for an exam, and a livestreaming gig, so the next Sub-A-Thon stream might have to wait.

Anyway, I want to play Tales of Arise, so here're the chapters. Next week will be a Corseltel update (and my thoughts on the new Corseltel series).

CnR-KM Vol. 3 Ch. 20

Nanaten here, just back from 4 hour stream. I'm starting to actually enjoy myself doing a bunch of livestreams throughout the week. But I still haven't forgotten about my translating duties, don't worry about it.

So I guess it's time for this week's VODs. The first one is a stream where I played One Hand Clapping, a game that you play by singing.
I especially had a great time with this one where I just get on the mic and make a bunch of random noises.

The VOD is the one that I just did before writing this post. It's an indie RPG Maker horror game called Ann. It was created by RongRong, an Indonesian animator who is famous for his "In a Nutshell" series. I was too scared to play this alone, so I had to call a friend and fellow Vtuber, Roach BC.

One of the main appeal of this game is that it has full animated cutscenes. Unfortunately, due to compatibility issues, I wasn't able to get them to play during the stream. Still, I highly recommend this if you are an RPG Maker horror fan.

And if watching over 3 hour VODs is not your thing, I got just the fix. Last week, I made new MMD music video. This time, it's a music video for Major Lazer's "Lean On". I knew I couldn't do this video alone, so I asked another Vtuber friend, Amewa Takahashi, to borrow his 3d model and import it to MMD.

About this chapter: We're halfway through volume 3, as the beginning of Summer approaches. This time, we have a story centered around Ma-ta. Ma-ta in my opinion is the least utilized character amongst the baby dragons. Aside from her crush on Kashi, we barely have any story centered around her. She gets paired with Ta-ta but even Ta-ta has a couple of stories of her own. So reading this chapter is an open welcome for me. Also the Bug Summer Spirit returns and he seems to be staying for a while. Although I'm not entirely comfortable with his crush on Ma-ta.

A little bit announcement: The fourth and latest Corseltel series, "Corseltel no Ryujutsushi Koryu Boukenki" came out this week with the digital version coming out upcoming Thursday. I am so excited for this new series ever since the announcement came out in April. From info I have gathered so far, there's going to be another timeskip and the dragons have grown to their early teenage form. The screenshots depict Sa-ta, Ta-ta, and A-ta outside of Corseltel looking for a new dragon mage. I can't wait to read the new series. I'll probably work on it alongside CnR-KM.

So here's the chapter. Next week will be Tobari update.

Ake no Tobari Ch. 211 & 212

Nanaten here. I just got my first dose of Covid vaccine. Luckily, I did not have any particular side effects aside from sore arms.

This week's videos, I did two long livestreams where I played a critically acclaimed indie game, Oneshot. Originally, I planned to play Surgeon Simulator in VR, but I couldn't get my Virtual World tracker to work with the game, and my Oculus Quest headset ran out of battery midstream, so I had to switch to play Oneshot. It's was still a lot of fun. So fun in fact, I immediately finished the game the next day.

I can see why this game is so highly regarded. I couldn't help myself but to get immersed into the game. There was a certain part where I even tried to talk to the main character. That's how endearing this game is. If you haven't played this game, I highly recommend it.

Speaking of, I'll be streaming the Solstice run of the game tonight. If you have the chance, please tune in on the stream.

About these chapters: easily one of the highlights of this arc. We finally get to see Reimei has his closure with Kakyo. I couldn't help but to smile (and cry) every time I read it. You'll know which part I'm talking about once you read it.

So here are the chapters. Let me know what you think in the comments. Also let me know if you find any error or mistake in the chapter. I'll be taking a break this next week. Have a great weekend.

CnR-KM Vol. 3 Ch. 19

Nanaten here just saw the capabilities of Slime VR. Me and my brother are intrigued with how it capable of full body tracking at such a low price. And the fact that it's open source and DIY. We're thinking of building one next month. But to do that, we need capital to get the components. So if you be so kind to donate, that would be very helpful.

This week's video is just a little update regarding the VSFAvatar for my Vtuber setup. I finally managed to import a beach prefab into unity and export it into VseeFace successfully. Here's the preview of the beach stage in VSeeFace.

The video is a part of my final assignment for content creator class, as you can see from the intro and the logos I wear on my hoodie. It took me a week in unity to work on the kinks. It was frustrating at first, because there were problem with the unity package compatibility, especially between VSF and UniVRM. And when I finally managed to solve that, the beach won't show up on my VSeeFace. After another couple of days, I discovered that my VSeeFace wasn't up-to-date. The whole thing was solved after I updated it.

A couple of days were also spent on choosing the beach before I finally settled with the beach resort from Shin Megami Tensei. I also add a couple of custom cameras for future streams. I planned on adding a bunch of stuff on the beach, such as campfire, a piano stage, and a working water (I couldn't get the water shader to work).

Speaking of which, I'm going to stream Just Dance 2020 to showcase the beach and the custom cameras. So please come and watch the stream. Also don't forget to tip because it would go towards building the SlimeVR tracker.

About this chapter: I was in a hurry to typeset this, so I didn't do any of the onomatopoeias. So yeah, this chapter is focused on Wilf and Raruka's relationship. As the whole theme of the Koryu Monogatari series is about how the dragons are growing up and will eventually leave Corseltel, I think this chapter gives a great view on the future prospect on the young dragons, considering dark dragons don't have a home to go back to. This also advance their relationship forward since the Wilf and Raruka romantic subplot was only mentioned on the bonus page of CnRM.

Anyway, let me know what you think in the comment section. Also tell me if you find errors or mistakes in the chapter. Next update will be Tobari update. I'll see you on the livestream.
