Ake no Tobari Ch. 5

Really, I have nothing to talk about besides this:

Announcement: for the next three months I'll be on my Community Service Program out of town, which means I won't be able to translate anything for the next three months. Fortunately, I already have 15 chapters of Ake no Tobari already translated including one chapter of Kaiouki. I'll try to upload it at least once a week anytime I can.

To be honest, I'm really nervous on doing this Community Service. I'll be in somewhere unfamiliar around strangers and socializing. For the last two hours I feel nauseous. But I need the experience (and college credit).

Chapter 5

Kaiouki Vol. 8 Ch. 24

It's been awhile since the last time I translated Kaiouki, or any Masatoshi Kawahara manga. I'm feeling that I'm drifting away from my goal by keep adding manga to translate. Then I realized, I already lost it the moment I take Tekken Chinmi Legends, War on Geminar, Samurai Sensei, and finally Ake no Tobari. So I'll just roll with it.

Random stuff: Last week, I tried to draw a small 4 panel comic. It was actually meant to be a Valentine sketch about how lonesome I am but it ended up as a patreon campaign. The responses were kinda hilarious. One of my acquaintance might thought I was dying. So I'm thinking of keep making sketches like this. But then again, It depends on my mood.

I don't know any sailing term, so I just followed the localized version (is tucking a real term?). Speaking of localized version, in the original version, the dialogue were shorter. But in the localized version, they add few details to avoid confusion because Japanese lacks pronoun.

So here's chapter 24. Next chapter will probably coming in three weeks.

Ake no Tobari Ch. 4

I forgot to mention this last week, but Comico announced that Ake no Tobari and 19 other selected titles will be available in Thai. It's great that Comico is reaching outside of Japan because there're lots of series that I like there (like the brand new series, Beast Tamer). And maybe any Thai translator will be kind enough to translate those into English. I really want to see Mummy in My Home get translated in English. Speaking of those selected titles, Momokuri anime is available now on Comico app. There are currently 4 episodes available for free with new episodes be available each week. You can also get the season pass if you don't want to wait and watch all of the episodes right now.

Random stuff: I just realized just how translating has changed me for the past few months. Most manga I read and my twitter feed are in Japanese. This scared me because I don't want someone to call me I'm good at it while in reality I'm just as incompetent as an average dweeb.

Also over the past few months, I've been posting manga links on my facebook,  mostly from Japanese manga sites. I tried not to spoil the chapter (although, I think no one reads them anyway). So it got me thinking: should I make my own facebook page. I've been thinking about it since translating Fudekage but I was confused on how to get started. Should I make it my own personal page (like Nanaten's fanpage) or my blog's (Citrus Project fanpage)? I mean It's pretty obvious that Citrus Project IS me, but I feel that something's missing for I go either way. So I'll keep withholding the facebook page idea for now.

About Tobari's speech style: I tried for a charismatic approach. I keep adding "Shall we?" at the end of his line because of that. It's nice because it matches with "しよう (Shiyo)" in the Japanese raws. Also I kinda dropped an F-bomb in Reimei's line. It might feel weird since he's a priest but then again, he did curse back in chapter 1.

So here's the second part of Yokai Leader arc. Next week is the climax and I have an announcement to make.

Chapter 4

First Impression: Shura no Toki Volume 16

Nanaten's Random Review

Shura no Toki Volume 16

I haven't done a first impression a while now. It was so long time ago, I forgot how do I make first impression. Last time I make a first impression was when I went to get a signature and detained because of my sidelock.

Anyway, I finally found low quality scans of Shura no Toki volume 16. However, the color pages was over saturated. And since I'm never good at color correction, I'll just leave it at that. I also have acquired the magazine scans all except the final chapter. They have better color pages, but has a downside on normal ones. So I'll just mix both scans for this review.

It is hard to talk about this arc in particular without spoiling Shura no Mon. So spoilers ahead.

Ake no Tobari Ch. 3

Thank you for your comments (on other sites, not on this blog). I'm glad to know that people enjoyed this series as much as I do. And the fact that they don't see this as yaoi (it's not). Please don't comment on the fact that Reimei and Tobari are living together. That's because the best girl hasn't make her appearance yet.

According to the poll result, you want the title to change into Tobari of the Dawn. Although, I already change it anyway yesterday because I got completely bored.

Random stuff: I tried to sing Peeping Life ending theme. For those who doesn't know, It's a CG anime from last season (the one with Astro Boy and Yatterman). I at least contacted the anime's official facebook page and they gave me a like (I take that as a compliment). Feel free to watch it and give me that sweet click count.

My terrible singing and mixing aside, here's the beginning of Yokai Leader of Mountain Shinonome arc. Next week will be chapter 4 and an update of Kaiouki.

Frequently Asked Questions

Nanaten's Random Friday

Over the year I got asked questions by people (mostly my mom). It was fun at first. But then same questions keep popping up again and again it's starting to get annoying. So, I decided to make this FAQ to address those questions.

Q: Are you Indonesian?
A: Yes. I live in Makassar hence the weird release hour.

Q: Y U do dis?
A: It was started back when I was applying for college. When I was studying for entrance exam, I read Corseltel no Ryuujutsushi and I fell in love with it in an instant (seriously, how can you resist those cute little dragons?). Of course, those translated chapters weren't enough, so I get the Japanese raws for Koryuu Monogatari. I didn't know any Japanese back then (still do) so I thought It would be a great opportunity to practice my Japanese and English.

Q: Why did you stop translating Corseltel no Ryuujutsushi?
A: Back then I didn't have the appropriate skills to make up for it. There's too many complicated kanji I just can't read. And the lack of furigana is the nail in the coffin. So I apologize.

Q: Nanaten, you suck at grammar and spelling!
A: I know. English is not my first language. Ironically, I took English major so I can become an english teacher.

Q: If you suck at grammar, why don't you recruit an editor?
A: I prefer to work alone cause honestly, those editors are wasted on me. I just don't know how to work with other people. I'm too lazy and impatient to write the transcript and wait every week.

Q: When do you release next chapter?
A: With the new patreon scheduling, I post at least one chapter on my private blog every Saturday at 12 a.m. Central Indonesia Time. Then I post it on this blog one week later. You can get the download link on my Livejournal and Tumblr.

Q: Why does it take you so long to translate x?
A: I planned to switch manga per volume. Once I'm done with one volume, I'll switch to another manga. With my scheduling, I can work at least 20 pages per week (translating, cleaning, typesetting, proofreading). So yeah, it takes a while.

Q: Why don't you translate the original Tekken Chinmi?
A: First of all, I haven't finish reading the original series either. Even with public raws available online, that's still more than 30 volumes worth of reading/translating. I already have Kaiouki and Shura no Mon which has more than 30 volumes each. And to my surprise, I also have a life outside translating. I might translate the original series, but the chance of that happening is slim.

Q: If you work solo, how can we help?
A: Well, you can start by giving me encouragement on the comments. I always sit here for hours every time I post a chapter just to wait for your comments. It gets lonely here sometimes. I could just look at the comments at Kissmanga. But since they banned me, I can't post anything there. I'm also accepting donation and I just started my patreon page.

If you have any more question, just leave it on the comments below.

Voting Time: Ake no Tobari English Title

I'm glad to know that this series is received well. However, I have a slight problem: the English translation of the title. For the past month, I've been calling this series "Dawn of Tobari" but the actual translation is actually "Tobari of The Dawn". I've explained in previous post that I called it Dawn of Tobari because Tobari of The Dawn won't fit in there and I already use that name for 20 chapters so, if I change it now, I have to redo all those. So please help me decide whether I should keep using the name Dawn of Tobari or go for Tobari of The Dawn.
